These trials have given me alot to think about and plan. Planning has to be thought through for each trial, as processing the footage is currently extra time consuming due to a series of incompatibility issues between my video camera, my editing programme, my laptop and an older computer. So there is little point producing endless experimental footage that takes forever to process - I must anticipate and imagine. I often make work in advance in my mind, or at least start it, or get some done.
Already these trial have been fruitful for ideas. I admit that the first references I think of are those of previous work I have made. Although I wasn't thinking of them at the time, after, I can see where all these ideas come from, how I have picked up many shades of thought, and made them in new ways and from new angles. I recognise the light projection, the projection of a thing onto itself, the surfaces, the TV, from previous work of mine, adding layers of provenance.
The layering of Moving Image especially interests me. I see I've been going that way. I often layer within a piece of Moving Image, but the projection onto a TV showing work adds an exciting dimension. There are many things to resolve here - how many layers are workable before it becomes too complex or dense. The use of vintage film is something I am working on a little in parallel....more later.
Using my own Moving Image is the big picture. There are things I can do to adjust my camera to fit the frames per second of playing on TV. I think TV is 35 frames per second, and digital video is 24 frames. Something like that. I'll look it up and avoid the line that appears.
I feel I am getting towards the transformation of form I am looking for.
