Eleanor, Jennifer, Clare, James - Emma.
28th May 2012
This synchronous seminar was abandoned in favour of group skype due to technical annoyances.
I think I find the group conversations more difficult than the others seems to. I find I get easily distracted and wish it was all over, despite trying to concentrate. I think I find it difficult to focus when there is not something visual to focus upon. I mention this because I am trying to find ways of adapting to it better in the future - to develop strategies.
Despite all that, it was an interesting conversation, and constructive. I see that Emma is taking more of a step back in leading the conversation, and stepping in at key points. I can feel her listening.
We were discussing places of working, and the shed, cave ideas of studio, and ways of working.
Documenting as we go along - way of looking for criteria for desired outcomes.
Studio Practice project to go more deeply into practice. contextualise art practice.
Post studio practice.
Art out of the studio - theViewergallery - making work regardless.
Space for work - expectations of institutions.
Jennifer feels like a hunter/farmer artist - opportunistic.
Creativity within restrictions - resourcefulness.
Storage and practical solution - the practice of organising stuff.
Collecting - for me it is restraining the collecting instinct.
Producing work anonymously raises interesting idea - ego and identity - how different if all work was anonymous.
Building up exhibition hardness by showing in various circumstances - like concert hardness.
Reflection
I find it difficult to takes decent notes while such conversations are going on, but I did retain some things, especially what Jennifer said about a post studio practice, and ways of being an opportunistic artist, and also myself talking about the exhibition hardness.
The anonymity idea - time to instigate another post around MA project as soon as Absolute Magnitude rounded up.
