In the dream I was explaining what I had done with it as if I was an artist in the media being interviewed. I had painted or drawn on top of the painting, a bit like the way Jake and Dinos Chapman have added peeled layers to Goya and other paintings.

The point was that I was making obvious the illusion which painting is, showing in detail the tricks and visual agreements that comprise image. By this, I was showing what an illusion such religion is. Somehow, by being a lapsed Catholic, it had allowed the veil of painting illusion to be lifted.
