Reflection on outcomes since last tutorial
The making of work for the Art Fair, Myriad, has taken up a lot of time recently, and although Myriad is not part of the MA, the process is. That’s certainly an education, and it could indeed have turned out well, with buyers and sales. Still, I gained a lot from it all, including pushing work through to a sellable position, which is a real breakthrough for me. That, and the making day, has enabled me to see my practice as more consistent in various situations and contexts. I recognise my own thinking and solution in different media – I may indeed have seen that before the MA, but now I feel I can rely on more than instinct and artistic sense, that even shorter projects can be backed up and linked to research and ideas.

Current projected aims and outcomes
I am now going ahead with making an hour long interim moving image piece for this unit submission, and then pick up the 24 Hour Sibelius in the new academic year. It’s a chance to try out strategies and complete work this year. Angela reminded about dangers in compromising the piece in order to fulfill an hour, eg stretching out to fill the time and not allowing the piece to have a natural conclusion, especially at the ending, but as I said, from where I am now, I don’t have to compromise yet! What I mean is that at this stage I have time to put everything together without compromising, and I trust my creative process and work ethic.

Discussion and recommendations
Look at MA James’ work on Vimeo – collection of places in Britain. Rhythm and structure, also funny.
Look at putting my writing about the art fair on AN site?
Send work to other MA students over the summer – keep up comments and reflections between us.
Reflection
I have found keeping up with the Reflective Tool for this unit rather difficult – more so than expected. I spent considerable time at the start coming up with a catch all system, anticipating all eventualities, so that I would merely fill it in at regular intervals – job done! But it has been an irregular year in life, work and family, and it had ended up more piecemeal than planned. Still, it has been very effective. I’ve noticed it in the whole MA group, that there is much more self awareness and questioning – another way of saying reflection in thinking. I feel I still have more organising to do with these reflections, but I have made a lot of connections in my thinking.
