Reflection on outcomes since last tutorial
Discussed progress on Breaking Boundaries task, and the multilayering of projects. Being the facilitator of work which is mine but made by many other raises questions about ownership, appropriation and consent. I have thought through these issues quite alot, but Caroline is right to be clear about my position, and to make my own voice clear. I do like all the issues and questions raised, and feel it is fruitful for further work and thinking. Note that the upcoming PC essay is completely related to Breaking Boundaries task. Currently researching and planning different ways to evaluate project – I had to think this through for the Arts council application. There are ways to prepare that can be more valuable than others.

Current projected aims and outcomes
The personal practice plan – such a large scope, full of caveats. To be a useful document, not academic writing, but one to be revisited and revised throughout MA and beyond. About positioning oneself.
Discussed keeping range of references very wide throughout MA – I talked of incorporating not just current issues, but referencing art history more. All is possible, desirable, as long as it is relevant and appropriate, and places work in current practice. This is more of a personal vow, after recent feedback writing at Koestler Trust, where we referenced famous previous artists rather than current, for practical reasons. Made me more aware to do this, to make that my MA. I am used to citing science, psychology, novels, etc in my work, but have recently felt the need to include the relevance of art history. I feel it is like educating myself as I go along, as frankly, I have a good general knowledge of art history, but not as expert as I feel I should be. As I myself would say to any student, that’s fine, as long as it is relevant and placed the work in contemporary context.

Discussion and recommendations
Mentioned that I had felt a little manoeuvred by Emma in July feedback into a position I did not really intend. It’s not really a problem, but a challenge for me, as I well know, for more clarity, to back up and justify my view.
