Visual Enquiry. From Archive to Interview.
What an extraordinary person Christian Boltanski is. This conversation is like a work of art itself, and I will return to it a few times.
He talks of previous work which has since been taken up and made in different ways by other people -
Michael Landy in passing on all his possessions,
Sophie Calle in writing letters as an alternate personality,
many more.
The idea of creating a collective childhood memory - an archetypal childhood, editing out his own unusual circumstances. He knows it's revealing. He reveals.

Reflection
Botanski has extraordinary honesty and candour, and self awareness of his authentic eccentricities. It's certainly true that art is a therapy and a positive vessel for psychosis. He seems akin to Louise Bourgeois in a rather mischievous attitude to creating versions of his past, fictionalising them for artistic use.
