Dual representation rarer in England - more common in Europe
Agent - usually sales - individuals
Consultant - usually sales - business
Dealers - without premises - buy and sell new and old masters.
Galleries take on new artists:

2. recommended by curator or critic they respect
3. long term artist investment in gallery - attending talks, private views, introducing yourself to their artists or staff

Established - gallery representation UK and international, institutional solo exhibition, international art fairs and bienniels, £25,000 upwards.
Mailing lists
Categorise mailing lists - curators, etc. Expand
MA shows - idea opportunity BUT ask people if they can be added to mailing list - always ask curators
Galleries should ask artists for their mailing lists - they shouldn't need to, and there are legal data protection issues - you don't want to piss of your own list with unwanted emails.
Yet another talk about the gallery system which pieces the whole jigsaw together.
I also realise that artists I know who have gallery representation are sometimes still not that clued in - some have had poor or costly experiences. No matter where you are in all this you need to keep learning.
A great suggestion at the talk was meeting a few artist friends to go round galleries - choose a London area, explore commercial galleries, etc - there are so many.
I may revive my artists group for that - a friend from that was at the talk.
